Skilled Nursing and Home Health

Home health care agencies provide medical and skilled nursing services in your home. If your doctor orders this type of care, it is then provided in your home by Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), and other health professionals like physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapies.

  • Home health care must be prescribed by a physician.
  • Some health insurance and long term care insurance plans cover home health care, and short-term services may be covered by Medicaid or Medicare.

Before you call or visit an agency, you may wish to review the Home Health Care Checklist.
